1. Magic the Gathering: Arena
There have been other attempts to adapt Magic: The Gathering into a video game format, but none of them have been as effective as Magic the Gathering: Arena in providing an experience that is appealing and simple to learn. This title takes the CCG to PC and is far more approachable than Magic: The Gathering Online, which is Wizard of the Coast’s other online product.
2. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was EA’s comeback after a long period of mishandling the Star Wars licensing. It is a single-player game that takes inspiration from the Souls series and finally succeeded to win over lovers of that galaxy, which is very, very far away. In a crowd-pleasing action game that gamers could finally get behind, Jedi: Fallen Order centered its gameplay around the usage of lightsabers and the Force’s many powers.
3. Ace Combat 7
With the release of Ace Combat 7, a highly improbable sequel to 2007’s Fires of Liberation, the dazzling aerial combat and political intrigue of the Ace Combat series made its way to current-generation consoles. Those who had not played Ace Combats 1–6 before to this belated follow-up would be pleased to learn that it serves as a suitable entry point into the series. Even while it didn’t have a lot of innovative features, it made the genre, which is notorious for being hostile to novices, more approachable for anyone who had an interest in trying it out.
4. Super Mario Maker 2
With the release of Super Mario Maker 2, Nintendo once again opened up its toy box to players, enabling them to design their very own Mario levels and upload them to be played by their friends via the internet. The development suite of Mario Maker 2 had an almost infinite number of options, and its in-depth tutorial offered a constructive and sympathetic introduction to the process of game production. Then there was its story mode, in which Nintendo let its imagination run wild with its own tools and designed some wacky levels that you would never see in a mainline Mario game.
5. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Even though it gave us a nice kick in the behind, we still respect Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for its fast-paced fighting that rewards skill, the good enemy variety that keeps it from getting dull in between boss fights, the fantastic world design, and the best plot in a From Software game up to this point. Games that is purchasable by anyone who is a fan of the genre, as well as someone who is just beginning their experience with punishment.
6. Luigi’s Mansion 3
This year, Luigi stole the show as the protagonist of Luigi’s Mansion 3, which transported players to a spooky hotel and presented them with challenging puzzles to solve. One of the most entertaining Nintendo Switch games of the past year was this one, in which players could either take control of Gooigi, Luigi’s new sticky sidekick, in co-op mode or work alongside him as Luigi’s new sidekick in single-player mode.
7. Granny
In Granny, the idea behind “Escape the Room” games has been around for quite some time; in fact, the very first “text adventures” had inventory challenges as a way to impede players from completing their goals. Recent iterations of these games make use of a point-and-click user interface, which gives the player the freedom to take as much time as they require in order to investigate the surrounding area, gather things, and find solutions to hostage-taking challenges. This is about as traditional as it gets, despite the fact that Granny has the idea of escaping by solving a difficult inventory task in order to do so.
This time, you have a window of opportunity of five days to get away. These “days” have more of the characteristics of a life system than those of a rigid time limit. Therefore, each day is as long as you want it to be, and the only way it will stop is if you are hurt or if the insane old lady, also known as “Granny,” catches you. Take note, however, that these flaws are accumulative, meaning that the player character suffers further harm and becomes weaker with each passing day. They will start to droop on the second day, and by the time it is over, your blood will make it so that you have some difficulty seeing clearly. The five-day restriction is a consequence of having had such severe beatings that you are unable to sustain another blow.
