When Nintendo initially published Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, it stood out from the competition. While arcade fighters such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat emphasised sophisticated directional inputs and speed, Super Smash Bros. was created for the casual fighting game fan, and it became one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises.
As Super Smash Bros. grew and expanded on subsequent generations of consoles, game developers learned from it while creating their own fighting games. These 10 titles, whether created by small creators or major video game companies, openly carry over the Super Smash Bros. model with various characters or oddities to separate them.
1.Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, which came out in 2021 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox platforms, is a Super Smash Bros. clone that isn’t too old. The movements and look of this fighting game are a lot like those of Nintendo’s all-star fighter, but it has figures from Nickelodeon cartoons from the past and present.
From SpongeBob SquarePants to Aang to Lincoln Loud, the lineup has characters from many different eras of Nickelodeon. Also, characters that belong to Nickelodeon, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Garfield, are included in the game. Even though it had some big problems when it came out, many reviewers said it was one of the best Smash clones.

2.Brawlhalla
Even though the full version of MultiVersus won’t come out until 2024, fans have already seen what to expect from this Smash-like game through early access and test versions. MultiVersus is a mix of fighting games like Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Most of the figures come from movies and shows owned by Warner Bros.
All of these characters are known to be in MultiVersus: Batman, Finn from Adventure Time, Bugs Bunny, Rick Sanchez, Arya from Game of Thrones, and Tom and Jerry. Even LeBron James, who will be in the Warner Bros. movie Space Jam: A New Legacy in 2022, is on the team.
3.MultiVersus
Even though the full version of MultiVersus won’t come out until 2024, early access and test versions have shown fans what to expect from this Smash-like game. MultiVersus is a mix fighter like Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Most of the characters come from titles owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Batman, Finn from Adventure Time, Bugs Bunny, Rick Sanchez, Arya from Game of Thrones, and Tom and Jerry are all confirmed to be in MultiVersus. Even LeBron James, who stars in the 2022 movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was also made by Warner Bros., is on the team.
4.Rivals Of Aether
Rivals of Aether was popular with Super Smash Bros. Melee fans who were really into the game for a while because it tried hard to recreate the competitive parts of the GameCube game. Rivals of Aether was made by independent creator Dan Fornace. It has a group of original characters who each represent a different element, such as fire, water, air, or earth.
Rivals of Aether was also changed to include characters from other independent games, like Shovel Knight and Ori from Ori and the Blind Forest. Rivals 2, a sequel to the game, will come out in 2024. There will also be several spin-offs, such as the roguelike Dungeons of Aether and the online card game Creatures of Aether.
5.PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
Sony tried to make money off of the crossover fighting game genre by making a copy of Super Smash Bros.Sackboy from Little Big Planet, Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and Big Daddy from BioShock were all playable characters in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
When the game came out in 2012, it got a lot of attention, but most reviewers said it wasn’t as good as Super Smash Bros. Because of this, it was only ever released on the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita handheld system. There’s no promise that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will keep going, but no one is begging for it either.
6.Shovel Knight Showdown
Shovel Knight is also an available character in Rivals of Aether, but his own game has its own version of Super Smash Bros. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove came out in 2019 after years of changes with new stories. It has a new fighting minigame called Shovel Knight Showdown, which is based on Super Smash Bros.
In the minigame, you can play as many characters from Shovel Knight’s different stories. It has figures like Shovel Knight and Shield Knight, as well as the full Order of No Quarter, the Enchantress, and Black Knight, Baz, Mr. Hat, Reize, Mona, Goldarmor, and Liquid Samurai.
7.Brawlout
Early access for Brawlout came out on PC in 2017, and the game was then ported to the Nintendo Switch. In 2018, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions came out for the full release. Brawlout is similar to Super Smash Bros. in that it lets up to four players fight on platform stages, but 21 of the 25 possible characters are new.
As for the other four characters, Yooka-Laylee, The Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter, Juan from Guacamelee, and Dead Cells all make surprise roles in Brawlout. Even though reviewers liked it pretty well, its community hasn’t been as active as other Smash clones in the past few years.
8.LEGO Brawls
Even though there have been many LEGO games for many generations of consoles, the famous brand didn’t start making fighting games until 2019.LEGO Brawls came out first on iOS and Mac’s Apple Arcade. A few years later, in 2022, it was ported to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
Critics had different thoughts on how to play the game, but many liked how it was similar to Super Smash Bros. and how charming it was in general. It also has a lot of mini-figures from famous series, like characters from LEGO Ninjago and Jurassic World Dominion, as well as more general characters from LEGO Space and LEGO Castle sets.
9.Roof Rage
Roof Rage is one of the few games that looks like Super Smash Bros. but doesn’t have any characters from other titles. The game is currently available on PC and Switch. It has 13 characters that look like characters from the Street Fighter or Final Fury series. But, as the name suggests, most of their fights happen on roofs.
Roof Rage has a lot of different ways to play, just like Super Smash Bros. It has a series of A.I. fights and different stock or score-keeping matches. The game can also be played online through Steam, and there is a Discord system where people from all over the world can join and play against each other.
10.Rocket Arena
Rocket Arena is the most different from other Super Smash Bros. clones because it takes the Smash concept and puts it in a third-person shooter. All of the 10 colorful playable characters that are available at launch use rocket launchers as their main weapon. They fight in 3v3 matches on a range of stages, including Capture the Flag, using rocket launchers as their main weapon.
Some reviewers had mixed feelings about Rocket Arena’s variety, but they all agreed that it had a lot of promise as a unique competition fighter that took parts from games like Fortnite and Overwatch. Even though there haven’t been any changes or new seasons of online play since 2021, here’s hope it will get a second chance at some time.
